۱۰ ثانیه فکر کن: اهمیت واقعی

با  پدر بزرگ در پاریس قدم می زدیم.  کفاشی را دیدیم که مشتری اش کفشی را برایش پس آورده بود و اعتراض می

کرد که این کفش خوب تعمیر نشده.  کفاش با آرامش مشتری را آرام کرد و  عذر خواهی کرد و قول داد که باز کفشش را اصلاح کند.

اونطرف تر توی یک کافه نشستیم. گارسن می خواست از بین ِ دو میز رد شود و به یکی از مشتری ها گفت ببخشید میشه صندلیتون رو کمی جلو بکشین. مشتری نگاهی به گارسن کرد و با حالت تندی گفت: « من جابجا بشم؟!  عجب!! نخیر اقا متاسفانه نمیشه».

بابا بزرگ گفت این رو به خاطر بسپار. اون کفاش اشتباهش رو قبول کرد و سعی در اصلاحش کرد اما این مشتری از جاش تکون نخورد. اونایی که برای جامعه مفیدن ناراحت نمی شن اگه کسی نقدشون کنه. اما اونایی که کار مفیدی نمی کنن همیشه فکر می کنن که مهمترین آدم روی این سیاره هستن و همیشه ناتوانی و بی عرضگی ها شون رو با طعم ِ تلخ ِ جبر و دستور همراه می کنن.

Excerpt: Jean was out walking with his grandfather in Paris.

At one point, they saw a shoemaker being insulted by a customer who claimed that there was something wrong with his shoes.
The shoemaker calmly listened to his complaints, apologised and promised to make good the mistake.Jean and his grandfather stopped to have a coffee.

At the next table, the waiter asked a man if he would mind moving his chair slightly so that he could get by.
The man erupted in a torrent of abuse and refused to move.

‘Never forget what you have seen,’ said Jean’s grandfather.
‘The shoemaker accepted the customer’s complaint, while this man next to us did not want to move.

‘People who perform some useful task are not bothered if they hear some critics to their work, but people who do no useful work at all always think themselves very important and hide their incompetence behind their authority.’
